Today the Moon is making a lot of asepcts in a cluster, which could manifest as turbulence, stress, or a call to action. Ill go over the aspects, which relate to two features Ive mentioned many times the Venus-Mars conjunction in Taurus, and the triple conjunction in Aquarius. Those two events are related by the way Venus and Mars are both gradually sailing into a square aspect (90 degrees, fixed sign to fixed sign) with the triple conjunction. Can you visualize that? First Venus (the faster moving of the Venus/Mars pair) will square the triple conjunction, starting on July 1 when Venus squares Chiron then four days later, Mars squares Chiron.
From now until then this process will be building its energy, and there is a lot of energy to build. The individual, emotional, personal, sexual energies of Venus and Mars will be encountering the collective, era-defining, social energies of the triple conjunction. You will see cheesy horoscopes use the word to describe the square. This or any similar language would be an inaccurate overstatement; the effects, which are currently developing, are subtle, and personal. Ill say more about this as the events develop and we get more reports in from our readers, many of whom actually do have a handle on how these energies manifest.
Just remember, Neptune is involved, and Neptune is subtle. It has an extremely wide orb of influence the widest of all the planets and minor planets, and we are well within range of Neptunes orb which I would put at at least 15 degrees on the applying side of an aspect (that is, before the aspect actually perfects, as its developing).
However, thats not what I planned to write about today that story is the background. Today the Leo Moon is about to square Venus and Mars; and then overnight and tomorrow, its about to oppose the triple conjunction in Aquarius. So we get a little warm up of what it might be like to have Venus and Mars plunge into a square with Jupiter, Chiron and Neptune.
Moon square Venus and Mars is often experienced as emotional, or a bit over-emotional. The magnanimous quality of the Leo Moon can come into some conflict with the needs presented by the Moon-Venus square. I would say let your needs be real. The important thing is to take them where you can get them met. Often we know our emotional or spiritual needs and pick someone we think can meet them, who unfortunately cannot. Our values around relationship have become rather clingy and loaded with expectation in these years and we need to be alert to this fact; we need to notice who is not dancing with us and find someone who will.
Yes, this means change, but if you ask all these squares and oppositions in the sky and in our souls right now, change is the name of the tune. Take action.

Last week, popular Sri Lankan astrologer Chandrasiri Bandara predicted in his regular astrological column that September and October would be a time of severe ecomonic and political problems for the island. He apparently also told an opposition meeting that the prime minister would take over as president on 9 September and the opposition leader would become prime minister.
He was arrested on the evening of the 24th and charged with”publishing an astrological column which was adverse to the government,”
Most Sri Lankan politicians, including President Rajapaksa, firmly believe in astrology. And according to this BBC article the country is cracking down on dissidents generally and journalists in particular. It is not yet known what Bandara’s fate will be.

One day I parsed the logic and replied: Well, do you think its better to charge to hurt them?
This pretty much obviated the issue. In truth, however, it usually works out that its easier, more efficient and more profitable to hurt people rather than to help them. A quick scan of the history of industrialization including PCBs, asbestos, cigarettes and the Ford Pinto establish this pretty quickly.
The question is not why people do it, but rather why we put up with it and even help them; and why we are, as a society, so resistant to investing our money where its going to make a positive difference. Notably, we are currently spending $230 million a day on a war in Iraq. Would it have been remotely possible to put that money to work for social causes, or is our only option with that much capital to create mayhem?
With this theme, we embark on the topic of values, which in my astrology is the core theme of Taurus. Values embraces the question of what we would do with our money, collectively and individually, if we noticed that we have a choice in the matter. But it goes a lot further than that.
I was first acquainted with the term values in Philosophy 101 at SUNY Buffalo, taught by Prof. Paul Kurtz. It arrived in the title of a textbook called Ethics and the Search for Values. I know that, for this reason, I equate the idea values with that of ethics. It may actually be easier to think of values as a subset of ethics: ones personal inventory of right or wrong. Values are the inner psychic elements by which we determine what is right or wrong for us, as individuals if we take the time to stop and think.
In effect, a value is a contract with oneself by which one guides ones life. It is a commitment to invest vital energy (of which money is one form) somewhere that we feel is right, and to divest it from where we think its wrong. That requires an ethical judgment, or it calls for one. Usually this pertains to a person, to some activity in the world and very often where we put our cash. Usually in the process of relating to the material world, the ethical assessment is overlooked entirely. What we want is determined externally, by how brilliant an advertising person is; by how manipulative a videographer is at morphing a Mercedes with a slinky young woman; or by what pre-established, conditioned appetite is acting up at the moment.
Meantime, we are taught by long conditioning and tradition to acquire what we are told we want and not worry about the consequences. The packaging industry is not helping. There is absolutely no way to avoid plastic in Western civ at this time. Look around and consider your life, and tell me if you think its possible.

Whether it’s a wireless device, or an app that does it all, we’re always on the search for the latest and greatest. Beauty companies, of course, are no different; they’re constantly researching and uncovering new ingredients, technologies, and innovations that keep our beauty routine on the cutting edge. It’s safe to say that in the not-so-far future we’ll be seeing refrigerated vanities, robot hair washing machines and smarter ingredients that work with your specific DNA, says Jeanine Recckio, beauty futurologist and trendcaster for Mirror, Mirror Inc. Curious about what will be happening next year and beyond? Here’s a sneak peek of top trends in the making:
Wear It Well: Once only popular in Europe, caffeine-infused shapers and pantyhose are gaining steam in the US. Right now, “cosmetic clothing” is limited mostly to undergarments that target cellulite, but new technology in France is bottling the concept. The lotions can be applied to any article of clothing, and aren’t restricted to cellulite toning. Here’s how it works: Add one of the three lotions that each have a different benefit (moisturizing, toning cellulite or refreshing tired legs) into a load of wash. During the wash cycle, the fabric becomes coated with microcapsules that are wrapped in silicone. Once you put on the clothes, the silicone breaks down (from the friction created by the fabric touching your skin); the capsules open up and spread onto your skin, which absorbs them like any topical cream or lotion. The lotions are only available in Europe now, but keep an eye out for them to reach US shores in the near future.
Hot Ingredients: Keep an eye on growth factors, such as TGF beta, TNS and PSP. These super-peptides are gaining more momentum, because they stimulate cells to produce collagen. “I believe they are only going to get better than what we’re seeing right now, once we learn more information about the types that are good for skin,” says Dr. Leslie Baumann, director of Cosmetic Medicine and Research Institute at University of Miami. Another one to watch: Astaxanthin, an antioxidant that’s up to 1000 times more potent than Vitamin E. It’s found in algae, has similar benefits to a retinoid, and in one study, decreased hyperpigmentation by more than 40%.
Feed Your Face: More beneficial food ingredients, like probotics found in supplements and yogurt, will make their way into skin creams and serums, says Mintel, a leading market research company . Probioticsthe “good” bacteria that stunt the growth of “bad” bacteria –have been touted for improving digestion and boosting immunity. Now it’s possible that when applied topically, the bacteria can help skin too. Look for these microbes in skincare to prevent breakouts, infections and conditions like eczema. And a few beauty companies are testing probiotics for anti-aging benefits, such as improving skin tone, firmness and collagen production. The science is new, and dermatologists believe more research is needed to make the link between probiotics and youthful skin, but you may see more “bacteria” ingredient anti-aging creams as early as next year.
Look for the Light: The do-it-yourself trend is still holding strong, especially as the economy forces women to look for ways to include spa-only treatments in their beauty routine, minus the hefty cost. Following on the success of handheld LED devices that zap pimples or remove unwanted hair, beauty companies are exploring similar light and heat technology for aging skin. The devices claim to improve skin tone or firm up wrinkles by stimulating collagen, much like the lasers or LED lights you’d find in a dermatologist’s office. While some have already been spotted on store shelves, there are even more in development, says Baumann. “The jury is still out on how well they work, but it looks promising,” she adds.
Still Spending: Good news in a weak economy-beauty products continue to be a must-have, according to Mintel. In turn, “cosmetic companies are quickly responding to the needs of the recessionista,” states Taya Tomasello, senior analyst for Mintel Beauty Innovation. “Effective and affordable multi-use products and products offering convenience allow women to continue using their favorite brands, but at a reduced cost.” Companies are zeroing in on makeup and skincare with multiple benefits and performances. What you can expect: Anti-aging ingredients, like peptides and rare antioxidants, will be in everything from blush to shadows. Already debuted in the past few months, are peptide-infused undereye concealers, anti-aging shadows that minimize lines and mascaras that help lashes grow thicker and longer. More multi-use makeup will reach store shelves and beauty counters this fall and next year.

This week was a tough week for me. I feel like I have been getting a lot of headaches. I wound up going to the emergency room. The problem is that I am a psychic reader and I suffer from a lot of headaches. I thought that my head was just going to pop because it got so painful. I thought that maybe I had a brain tumor or something. However, when I went to have my head scanned, they told me that there was no brain tumor and that perhaps I needed to just take it easy.
I realize now that God is trying to put me on break for awhile from doing psychic readings. I feel like I may need an entire year of relaxation because I have been giving psychic readings every day for the past 10 years or so and I have pushed my body beyond what it can handle. I think it’s wrong to push yourself to hard. However, I always felt a call to help people. However, I now understand why Edgar Cayce got sick from doing psychic readings as well.
He did so many of them that eventually he became ill. It’s hard to step away from the psychic circle because you feel called to help people. However, my physical ailments have taught me to let God handle people and just do what I can on a daily basis. Never give psychic readings to the point that you are getting sick. Only give psychic readings if you feel called to do so.

My current chart for May is a fixed star Alkaid protection talisman. Alkaid is the furthest star in the tail of the Great Bear, the Cauda Ursae Majoris.
Hermes on the 15 Fixed Stars says that of the Tail of the Great Bear that it,
is strong against incantations and against assassins and gives security from them, and if with this is placed the tooth of a wolf it protects also from robbers and thieves.
Definitely a great all around protection talisman as you usually dont combine protection against spiritual AND physical attack.
Nigel Jacksons wonderful Alkaid image of a pensive man, which you can see above to left, looking very much like a darvish, a Sufi in other words, points us towards some of the other interesting associations of the Great Bear.

The elements in Indian astrology

  • Apr. 19th, 2009 at 7:31 AM
The elements in Indian astrology By : M.K.Pandey
The energy of the planet is filtered by the four elements. Each element is related to a particular function of the self. Earth to the body and matter, water to emotions, air to the mind and intellect, and fire to the spirit and intuition. The balance of planets within the horoscope chart describes how much at ease within these specific realms of experience a person is. Some charts are balanced, with an equal number of planets in each element. Others have only one planet in an element or none at all, and a large number in another. The elements in Vedic astrology represent different ways of perceiving life. In practical earth, the world in experienced via the physical senses; in water. It is experienced through sensing and emotion. Air arrives at understanding through thought and logical reason but fire is intuitive and knowing. Signs that share the same element resonate with each other but independent fire signs find water too dependent and introspective. Making relationships difficult; water feelings are expressed non-verbally, whereas the air signs communicate primarily with words. Earth signs are essentially practical and have little time for flights of fancy or emotional outbursts.

Thursday the 16th is a red-letter day with a grand trine of Moon in Capricorn, Mercury in Taurus, and Saturn in Virgo. Good day for scientific seminars or giving oral dissertations; anything involving communication, science, discipline, organization, economics and the public. Watch the news that day for any science announcements from government agencies or related fields. Earth sign trines favor building something concrete. The Mercury-Saturn trine is exact on Friday so see if there is any followup that evening. And anyone with natal planets at 13-15 degrees of the earth signs will probably be affected.

Mars is conjunct Uranus in Pisces on Wednesday morn, the 15th. Drive defensively on your morning commute, and be careful of all potential accidents, including putting your foot in your mouth.

Chiron approaches a conjunction to Neptune in altruistic Aquarius; non-profits and food banks are being stretched past their limits, and as you know because the Madoff scheme burst, some have been forced to close. Please donate whatever small amount you can to your local food bank, shelter, and other support structures because I fear a crunch is coming and more will shut down.
Readers can follow not only their Sun sign horoscope but also the sign of their Ascendant for further clues to how your week will develop.

ARIES - March 20-April 19 The Aries Sun sextiles Neptune Wednesday afternoon; perhaps you donate some of your abundant energies to a charitable organization's project, or just go to the movies with friends. It's OK if you do both. Your ruler Mars is in unpredictable conjunction with Uranus so be prepared for any surprises regarding people around you. Keep an eagle eye out for safety conditions wherever you are. May as restock the safety kit at home, work and car. And watch your temper as well, because things you say can unnerve others so much that they dash into accidents.

TAURUS - April 20-May 20 Mercury in your sign is part of the grand trine Thursday with the Moon in Capricorn, and Saturn in Virgo. You may be called on to make the official announcement (with your broadcast-worthy voice) or provide other communication services. Saturday may provide some obstacles like misspeaking, stumbling, stuttering, but concentrated effort (trine to Saturn) can pay off. Mercury is also in sextile to the asteroid Juno in Pisces; you are better at speaking in one-on-one situations and marital relations stand to improve. Those who need some marriage counseling can make great strides now just by learning constructive communication techniques.

GEMINI - May 21-June 20 Because your ruler Mercury is involved in the grand trine this week, please read all notes about that above. The asteroid Vesta will be at 2 degrees Gemini mid-month, and so it has been or will be in close aspect to Pluto in Capricorn (inconjunct), North Node in Aquarius (trine), Juno in Pisces (square), and Ceres in Virgo (square), and Pallas in Cancer (semisextile). These are making very subtle changes in your life, altho the North Node can vault you to prominence or fame in some way. You probably feel conflicted over instinctual drives to marry or have children, vs. career drives and need to dialogue with your inner self to negotiate a 'treaty'. Read Dr. J.S. Bolen's excellent book, Goddesses in Every Woman, for insight into this negotiation process.

CANCER - June 21-July 22 Pallas Athena entered your sign about April 7 and will be there about 2 months. Pallas is very career-oriented and ambitious. You can be the go-to person for media quotes or get business referrals. Pallas is also trining Juno in Pisces in your solar ninth house, again activating your sector of law, publishing and higher education. If considering any projects in those sectors, do not delay getting applications or book drafts to people who can act on them. Expect challenging relationships while your ruler the Moon is in Capricorn Wed.-Fri.

LEO - July 23-Aug. 22 Those with birthdays in the last decan of Leo will have a nice week with the transiting Sun in the latter part of Aries. You definitely feel the onset of spring and enjoy the warmth of the sun on your face. Lately your get-togethers with friends have been less boisterous, and more of the gathering-by-the-fireplace type. Maybe you are mellowing out. Mercury in your solar tenth house can bring more messages, meetings and speaking engagements. Also remind family members to wear their seatbelts and drive defensively.

VIRGO - Aug. 23-Sept. 22 Lucky you, you are right in the thick of this grand trine with Saturn in your sign. Your expertise or discipline has put you in the right spot to benefit; you may be called on to make an announcement or craft some graphic enhancements. Economists, engineers and scientists among you may be especially busy and/or excited over discoveries and reports. Monday may be difficult, but Thursday and Friday much smoother. You might be in a creative mood on Saturday so rearrange and redecorate to your heart's content.

LI
A - Sept. 23-Oct. 22 Your ruler Venus goes direct this week Friday at 3:24 pm Eastern time, at about 29 degrees Pisces. Librans with natal Suns in late degrees of Libra will be more affected than others. Look back at what happened around March 6 when she went retrograde to determine what might happen now. If a layoff went into effect, you could be called back. If you were let go, perhaps unemployment checks may start arriving upon the termination of severance benefits. My only caveat this week is to make sure that workplace safety is as important as your work.

SCORPIO - Oct. 23-Nov. 21 The spotlight may be on your opposite number this week so try to be the gracious and proud spouse. Venus goes direct in your solar fifth house of fun, games, sports, children and art. Renew your acquaintance with creative expression and find your inner child again. For you, the Mars-Uranus conjunction may mean a happy surprise, since you are more comfortable with Mars energies.

SAGITTARIUS - Nov. 22-Dec. 21 The Moon is in Sag from midday Sunday till Tuesday night. The Moon squares Ceres on Sunday, so don't try to jump the gun and get some plants in the garden early, no matter how warm it is. The aspect will nip food crops early if you are so foolish. This is followed by a square to Saturn in Virgo Monday; you see the negative now, and also have problems relating to persons of the opposite sex. Tuesday midday can also be problematic, but things flow much better in the afternoon and evening. Identify ideals you hold in common.

CAPRICORN - Dec. 22-Jan. 19 The Moon is in Capricorn from Tuesday night till midday Friday. You go into detective mode Wednesday and do research or get to the bottom of minor mysteries. Thursday is a hi-energy day with a grand trine of Moon in Cap, Mercury in Taurus, and Saturn in Virgo. Good day for scientific seminars or giving oral dissertations; anything involving communication, science, discipline, organization and the public. A kinder gentler aspect graces Friday as the Moon sextiles Venus direct; perhaps a neighbor brings a plate of cookies.

AQUARIUS - Jan. 20-Feb. 17 The Moon is in Aquarius from midday Friday till late Sunday. Venus goes direct Friday in your solar second house of money, lucky you. Venus brings smaller gifts than Jupiter, but are usually more personal. On Saturday the Moon squares Mercury in Taurus, which can make you tongue-tied or mellifluous; either way you are likely to remember the moment. Sunday has lots of Moon conjunctions to Jupiter and Neptune, and you will enjoy treating everyone to a wonderful dinner out or other extravagance.

PISCES - Feb. 18-March 19 Some weeks are best spent hiding under the covers. OK, if you insist on doing something, you can curl up on the couch with a stack of mysteries. Mars and Uranus are conjunct in your sign this week, and they are so unpredictable together.

Whatever is born or done at this particular moment of time has the quality of this moment of time. Astrology in support of Jungs synchronistic unfolding of inner and outer reality is deeply rooted in the cosmological moment of birth as the seed pattern for the potential blossoming of that moment. In this  same way, the first day of every month puts forth the seed pattern of our potential experiencing of that month. The month of April begins on All Fools Day in continuum of an ancient ritual celebrating the resurrection of Spring and the season of renewal. Some scholars attribute the fruitless searching of  the goddess Ceres after her daughter, Proserpina, was abduction by Pluto and taken to the underworld, as the mythological antecedent to the fools errands and shape -shifting behavior made popular on the first day of April. Admittedly the mythological tales of the resurrection of Spring are as numerous as they are diverse; yet, in the telling of each tale something precious is lost preceding the shift in awareness bursting forth with new life. Not surprising that the chart cast at the hour of sunrise (GMT) this All Fools Day reflects the infinite wisdom of the cosmos by placing Venus Rx on the Ascendant approaching a square to Pluto on the Mid-heaven; a celestial signature echoing the ancient mythic telling of Proserpinas return from the underworld radiating the grace of Spring miraculously conquering the frozen touch of death; albeit with a slight twist, as our lord of death standing firm at the apex of our conscious awareness awaits the return of Venus rising with the  gentle light of dawn.

One of the perennial questions that astrologers get is how to make someone of a given sign fall in love with them, or how to keep them. How do I attract a Capricorn man? How do I keep an Aries?
There are certain principles that apply to all signs, of course. Be honest, be his best friend, support each other emotionally as well as financially. Astrologically, your moon signs should be compatible also; moons that square each other or oppose each other warn you that you may have too much friction to live under the same roof! Masculine and feminine planets should be conjunct or in harmonious aspect; for example Mars should be sextile, trine or conjunct Venus; the Sun or Ascendant should be conjunct, sextile or trine the Moon.

Astrology Forecast for February 2009

FOR EVERYONE ~ Roll with it. We will all be living and working amidst a blizzard of changes, large and small, high and low, and of all kinds. There are benevolent and healing forces behind these changes and optimism is warranted. One thing there will not be is certainty or clear direction. Even if we wanted to hunker down and safely wait out the changes or wait for a clear direction to emerge, we couldn't. There is no place to hide from the change and none of the old rules apply any longer. And nobody really knows where all this is leading, yet. We are all going to have to participate. This is one of those times when everyone just needs to have faith in the processes of life and pitch in in good faith when and where they are needed. It will be some time before things settle into a new, stable form. But attractive, realistic alternatives will emerge for everyone as the months proceed.

SIGN-BY-SIGN

ARIES ~ Let inspiration and your conscience be your guide. It's impossible to tell how events will turn out, let alone control them. The forces of change are in high gear and working overtime. The problem is you need to make many decisions from day-to-day to keep things going. Your best bet is to just do the right thing and to be open to real change. Right now, it is more important to be right on philosophical and ethical issues, to understand the deeper meaning of things, than to be in control.

TAURUS ~ Stargate. You are at a major life turning point. It might still seem only a twinkle in your eye, but it is about to become real. For years, you have been working hard and saving to lay the foundation for a lifestyle that suits the person you really are. For years it was a distant prospect. You might have thought it would never come. Now, in a cascade of changes, it will start to become a reality. February is a portal into the future you have long been working toward.

GEMINI ~ Know yourself. Events are overwhelming the people with most control over your job and finances. These events are hard to understand, too numerous to count, and completely beyond anyone's control. It isn't necessarily bad. And it's nobody's fault. The result, though, will be increasing pressure on you at work. To succeed, dig deeply and get in touch with who you really are. Know who you are. Be who you are. And do that with calm and dignity. It will bring you a surprising level of control over changeful work circumstances.

CANCER ~ Cut yourself some slack. An absolute blizzard of changes are going down, very fast, in every important area of your life. And there's scarcely a thing you can do about any of it. The epicenter(s) of change are work, partnership responsibilities and long-term finances. Interestingly, though, you are somewhat insulated from actual events and protected from any really bad outcomes. But the thing is, all this input will wear you out. Your nervous system is on overload. Take advantage of whatever breaks you can get to rest and rebuild.

LEO ~ Healing. The winds of change are blowing hard through the lives of everyone you know. You are especially sensitive to the pain that change and uncertainty are causing. It's a time of emotional and physical vulnerability for yourself and others, a bittersweet time, but also a time for healing. But events are also bringing you the power to shape the new reality. There is resistance. This resistance will grow, but so will your influence. To truly succeed, though, you must use your influence to benefit others. Self-centeredness will bring problems.

VIRGO ~ Stay calm and carry on. Change is causing stress among loved ones, at work, and in your romantic life. But don't overlook the gains: a more stable home life and a more resilient, confident you. Prepare for a lengthy new effort to express your real self even more effectively. A benevolent, healing influence is now influencing your work life and your health. Have faith in the benefit of long-term, patient approaches to issues. You will be rewarded generously for following your conscience. Someone who depends on you needs healing.

LI
A ~ Step back. Librans have had more than their fair share of uncertainty and frustration. They've faced too many questions that nobody can answer yet. The issues won't suddenly go away. But Librans will now have more help dealing with them. Friendship, romance, creativity, play, etc., will now bring relaxing distractions and needed rest. Make that extra effort to heal yourself, to reduce stress and renew yourself. Seek out people who are into healing things. You need to help yourself before you can help others. The financial situation will ease.

SCORPIO ~ Home sweet home. In recent times, home has been a place of unusual stresses and strains. Invisible pressures, hard to define issues wore you down. It was tough to maintain inner calm, also. Home is now becoming a place of sanctuary and healing. Your mind will also be more at rest. The planets are clearing out issues like old cobwebs. You'll be able to think through deep personal issues with greater clarity. Be sure to maintain proper boundaries as you also branch out into the community and meet new people.

SAGITTARIUS ~ Pick and choose. Be especially alert to make the proper changes in your economic life. There is enormous potential for success. You will find members of the community both sympathetic and helpful in your efforts. This is a long-term project. You are not just adjusting your budget, but transforming your finances to allow a different, better kind of life than you have known. It will take will-power and patience to finish the job and get it right. You are uniquely situated to offer guidance and direction to those caught up in change.

CAPRICORN ~ Downshift. You are facing a more complex financial situation than you expected. There is big potential, despite the tough decisions that are necessary. Amidst the chaos, powerful supportive and healing forces are at work. Events will soon simplify your choices, too. Embrace the slow pace at which decisions are being made. You need the time to sort things through properly. The delays and postponements frustrate you. But they help ensure that plans won't firm up before they are truly ready. You don't want something essential to get lost in the shuffle.

AQUARIUS ~ Dont be swept away. You are starting to see the benefits of a new 12-year cycle of growth and prosperity. At the moment, you are also subject to intoxicating and unrealistic vibes. You are the expert in boundless possibilities. And you wrote the book on optimism. Pay some attention to those who want to set limits or who see the possible downside. Don't get lost in an infinity of possibilities. To benefit yourself and others you need to accept limits. But you are the best judge of which limits to accept.

PISCES ~ Negotiate. Pisceans are betwixt and between. Inwardly, you sense all the potential. The optimism and confidence are there, inside. Outwardly, life seems too much about limitations and not enough about possibilities. You cannot quite achieve lift off. The resources you need to branch out are not quite within your grasp. Soon, you will have no choice but to submit to those who want you to be "practical" and "realistic." But they are more flexible than you think and you can negotiate. By this time next year, you'll see real benefits.

Herewith are my predictions for the first round of matchups in the college basketball championships known as March Madness. Sports Astrology is a very specialized skill and craft, and wading into these waters is a real temptation for the astrology gods to laugh in your face. But anyway, here goes.

I will be using the scheduled tipoff time as the time for the chart. The favored team is the sign on the ascendant, and the opponent is the sign opposite, in the seventh house. Turn the chart if you need to do so, to visualize the chart of the opponent. There is a real difficulty with games that take a couple hours to play, like basketball and football, because the chart can change dramatically when the signs change over. Like I said, here goes.

Texas vs Minnesota. The pundits say an upset could happen here, and the stars concur. Texas has Libra rising with its ruler in the first house of its opponent, Minnesota-Aries. Also Aries' ruler Mars is sextile Pluto. It looks like Minnesota will dominate its opponent. Advantage: Minnesota.

Duke vs Binghamton. Duke has Scorpio rising and is square the nodes. Bing has Taurus on its
ascendant, with its ruler Venus retrograde and square the Moon. That does not help Bing much
astrologically. And Duke's co-rulers, Mars and Pluto, are sextile. Advantage: Duke.

Villanova vs American Univ. Libra rising again for Villanova, with a square to the Moon, and opposite Venus but in the sixth house this time. Descendant (American) is Aries with a retrograde Venus in its 12th house. Somehow American will shoot itself in the foot even tho the later quarters of the game may proceed better than the earlier quarters. A tricky call but Advantage: Villanova.

UCLA vs VCU. UCLA is Scorpio rising, square Jupiter in the 3rd house. Sextile Saturn at the top of the chart, which is promising. Descendant (VCU) is Taurus with ruler Venus retrograde in the chart's fifth house and square the Moon. I think the elevated Saturn is too much for VCU to overcome. Advantage: UCLA.

California vs Maryland. Cal has Scorpio rising, trining the Sun in the fourth house. Co-rulers sextile each other in the second and third houses. Descendant (Maryland) is Taurus with ruler Venus retrograde. However Taurus also sextiles the Sun in its eleventh house of friends and groups. Perhaps a fan continent will help them stay focused on doing their best. However, even tho most of the Scorpio charts will have the favored team winning, Maryland gets some help from the stars. Advantage: Maryland.

LSU vs Butler. Hmm, finally a Cancer ascendant for the favored team. This chart has a square to Venus in the tenth, and a sextile to Saturn in the third. Mixed results. The descendant (Butler) has Moon and Pluto in its twelfth house, and a trine to retrograde Saturn. This is a hard call, but the heavy affliction in the Butler twelfth house will shoot down its hopes. Advantage: LSU.

Memphis vs Cal State. Ascendant Virgo (Memphis) trines the Moon, and is conjunct Saturn in the first house. Saturn is honors here. The descendant (Cal St) is Pisces with Mercury, Uranus and Sun in its first house. Also Mars Neptune in its twelfth house, which is not quite so deadly as having Pluto or Saturn there. Perhaps they will be hurt by injuries. Still they look strong with that stellium in their first house. Advantage: Memphis.

N. Carolina vs Radford. I know, I know, it will not prove anything to pick NC because it is ranked Number One. But anyway, we proceed. NC has Leo rising, opposite Jupiter at the descendant, and trine Venus. Aquarius is Radford, with Jupiter, Mars and Neptune in its first house. Jupiter is inconjunct Saturn and sextile Venus. Mars-Neptune is very unfavorable, with Jupiter magnifying things. Loss of key players to injuries, perhaps. Advantage: North Carolina.

BYU vs Texas AM. BYU has Cancer rising, trining Mercury-Uranus in the ninth house. Sparkling play, favorable press. Descendant TX AM is Capricorn, with ruler Saturn in its ninth house. Moon-Pluto in its twelfth; Pluto there is bad. North Node in its first house. Hmm, tough call. Texas may show potential for next year, but might not get too far this year. Advantage: Texas.

Gonzaga vs Akron. Gonzaga has Virgo rising here, with no aspects, although Saturn is in its first house and ruler Muercury in the seventh. Akron is Pisces, with Mars-Neptune in its twelfth house (bad). Probable injuries. But Mercury, Uranus and Sun are in its first house. A tough call but I am going with Akron to overcome its obstacles. Advantage: Akron.

U Conn vs Chattanooga. Leo is U Conn, with an opposition to Neptune in the seventh house. Also an inconjunct to Uranus in the eighth. Hmm, inconjuncts change things around, and Uranus sometimes denotes an upset. Chattanooga is Aquarius, with Mars-Neptune in its first house (bad). Jupiter in its twelfth. Loss of key players probably, and harsh officiating may go against them. Advantage: U Conn.

Illinois vs Western Kentucky. The Illini have Libra rising with ruler, retrograde Venus, opposing them. Also a square to heavyweight Pluto. Western KY has Aries rising and its ruler Mars sextile Pluto. Having the opponents' ruler in your first house is usually a sign that it has its opponent's number. Advantage: Western Kentucky.

Purdue vs Northern Iowa. Purdue has Cancer rising, opposing the Moon at the descendant. Square to Venus in the tenth. Iowa has the ruler of the opponent in its first house, a great indicator of dominance. I call for Iowa to pull an upset.

Clemson vs Michigan. Clemson is Virgo rising, opposing Sun and Uranus at the descendant. Saturn in the twelfth is bad because it could be done in by penalties. Michigan is Pisces, with the Sun in its first house. Again, Mars and Neptune in its twelfth mean losses, possible lost players due to injuries. A very tough call on this game. Advantage: Michigan.

Washington vs Mississippi State. Washington is Leo rising, trine a retrograde Venus. Its ruler the Sun is high in the ninth house. Miss is Aquarius with Jupiter and Neptune in its first house, a mixed bag. North Node in its twelfth house. Hmm. Washington has the advantage, I'd say.

Oklahoma vs Morgan State. The Okies have Libra rising trine Neptune in the fourth house. Morgan is Aries with Mars in the fifth house sextile Pluto in the third. Morgan has ruler Mars in better aspect, while the Okies have ruler Venus in retrograde and square the Moon. Advantage: Morgan State.

Louisville vs Morehead. Louisville is Libra rising, trine Jupiter in the fourth house, a great boon. Morehead has Aries rising, and in this chart Venus is in its twelfth house not in its first. So I see no upset here. Advantage: Louisville.

Oklahoma State vs Tennessee. OK has Cancer rising and trine the Sun and Uranus in the ninth house -- sparkling play again. Tenn has Capricorn as its ascendant, with its ruler Saturn inconjunct Jupiter. The Moon in its twelfth house just means the crowd will not be rooting for it. Very tough to call this matchup. I think the score will be very close. I will just go with the favorite -- Oklahoma.

Ohio State vs Siena. Ohio has Scorpio rising, with a trine to Mercury Uranus in the fourth house, and square to Jupiter in the third house. A lot of press attention for this game, I think. Plus a sextile to Saturn in the tenth house, very auspicious. Siena is Taurus with a trine to Saturn. Ruler Venus is retrograde and in the eleventh house (its fifth). Just because there are more aspects to Ohio, I will go with them.

Pittsburgh vs ETSU. Pittsburgh is Leo rising opposing Neptune at the descendant. A minor aspect to Venus. ETSU is Aquarius with Neptune in its twelfth house, which is not good -- fouls, missed opportunities, crossed signals, etc. Big advantage to Pittsburgh.

Utah vs Arizona. Utah is Libra rising, oppsosing Venus at descendant, sextile the South Node, a minor aspect to Neptune. Arizona is Aries, with its opponents' ruler Venus under control in its first house. Sun, Mercury and Uranus in its twelfth -- chance of lots of lost balls, interceptions, etc. But unheralded Arizona can steal this game.

Xavier vs Portland. Xavier has Virgo rising, conjunct Saturn in the first. Ruler Mercury conjunct Uranus in the seventh house -- not good. Portland is Pisces, Mercury and Uranus in its first house. Mars and Neptune in its twelfth house. Hurt by injuries etc. but I think they can bottle up Xavier. Advantage: Portland.

Wake Forest vs Cleveland State. Wake is Scorpio rising, square Jupiter at the bottom of the chart. Cleveland is Taurus with ruler Venus retrograde in its eleventh -- lots of friends come to root for them. Because Wake's co-rulers are sextile, I give them the advantage. Advantage: Wake Forest.

Florida State vs Wisconsin. Florida has Libra rising, again its ruler is retrograde and at the
descendent. Wisconsin is Aries, with ruler Mars sextile heavyweight Pluto. I see Wisconsin bottling up Florida pretty well. Advantage: Wisconsin.

Kansas vs North Dakota State. Kansas has Cancer rising, square Venus in the tenth house. Its ruler the Moon is in the seventh house, a bad placement. ND is Capricorn rising, with ruler Saturn at its Midheaven. I see North Dakota all over Kansas like chocolate sauce on an ice cream sundae. Advantage: North Dakota State.

West Virginia vs. Daytona. WV has Leo rising, trine venus in the ninth house. Nice national press. Ruler the Sun is in the ninth house also, with Mercury and Uranus near. Daytona has Aquarius rising, with Jupiter, Neptune in its first house. Jupiter is such a great boon, even with Neptune there. They might just benefit from blind luck. The crowd will not like them, tho (Moon in its twelfth house). Advantage: Daytona.

Boston College vs Southern Cal. Boston has Libra rising, opposing the sun at the descendant. It also has a square to Pluto in the fourth house which challenges but also pushes you to do better than your best. So-Cal has Aries rising, with the Sun on its ascendant, and opponent's ruler Venus in its first house -- a bright omen. Mercury and Uranus are in its twelfth house, which may denote lost balls, interceptions, muffed handoffs. Nevertheless, it has ruler Mars sextile Pluto going for it, which is hard to ignore. Advantage: Southern Cal.

Michigan State vs Robert Morris. Mich has the last degree of Libra rising, and a square to the Moon. It also has a trine to Neptune, which could mean inspiring play. Morris has Aries rising with Venus in its twelfth house. The game's first minutes could be of a different quality than the rest of the game. Mich's ascendant will change rapidly to Scorpio, with its co-rulers in sextile aspect. Advantage: Michigan State.

Marquette vs Utah State. Marquette has Scorpio rising, with no aspects. However as we have noted several times, its co-rulers are in sextile (favorable) aspect. Utah has Taurus as its rising sign, with its ruler Venus retrograde in its eleventh, friends and fans. Advantage: Marquette.

Syracuse vs Stephen F Austin. Syracuse has Cancer rising, squaring Venus in the tenth house which is favorable. Also a trine to Mars in the ninth house, which sextiles Pluto. Austin has Capricorn rising, and Pluto in its twelfth house -- very bad! The Moon is in its first, but it is hard to see anyone overcoming a Pluto affliction. This may be tough but I am going with Syracuse.

Missouri vs Cornell. Missouri also has Cancer rising, this time with Mercury and Uranus in the ninth house. Opposing Moon at the descendant. Very mixed. Cornell has capricorn rising, Pluto in its twelfth again, although ruler Saturn is in its ninth house. The elevated Saturn for Cornell is good, the opponent's ruler (Moon) in its first house is good. I may catch heck for this but -- Advantage: Cornell.

Arizona State vs Temple. Arizona has Leo rising with Venus trine in the ninth house -- adoring press. Conjunct the South Node above the horizon. Hmm. Temple has Aquarius with Jupiter in its first house, a hard placement to beat. They'll just be durn lucky, is all. Advantage: Temple.

British rule came to an end in 1947 as the sub-continent was divided into mainly Hindu India and Muslim-majority state of Pakistan. India became an independent republic at midnight on August 15, 1947.

THE HOROSCOPE OF INDIA
The horoscope of India should explain the present characteristics of India as a nation and be consistent with its rich history and recent events. An authentic chart also becomes the basis of accurate predictions.

Taurus ascendant
According to the Systems' Approach, "Taurus is an earthy sign ruled by Venus, the significator for pleasures, materialistic pursuits and comforts. The Moon, the significator for caring, tenderness and affluence, is exalted in this sign. Ketu, the significator of spiritual pursuits, is debilitated in this sign. These factors render the Taureans materialistic, motherly and sensual, enjoying comfort, beauty and luxury around them, being convinced that in all circumstances they are correct." [3]

"The sign Taurus in the ascendant give qualities of cautiousness, prudence, stability, perserverence, adaptability, gentleness, good planning and communication, analytical, direct, refinement, attractiveness, patience, romance, kindness, sentimentality, devotionl and charm or forcefulness, possessiveness, jealousy, stubbornness, obstinacy, resentment, passion, lethargy and pleasure seeking."

"Enjoyment of life to the fullest extent is the aim of life when Taurus is rising. They are analytical in approach, as the fifth house is ruled by Mercury. The fourth house, signifying inclinations, ruled by the planet Sun, determines their approach in life. The sign Aquarius falling in the tenth house makes these people technical and, if other planets are strong, the native may pursue an engineering course."

Indeed, this ascendant seems to fit India quite well as a country. For instance, there not many countries which demonstrate such beauty and charm through their arts.
A large and active population
India is the second-most populous country and largest democracy in the world. The chart for India has an unusually prominent third house containing five planets and receiving two aspects. The 3rd house rules growth, enterprise, initiative, communication and transportation.

The MOON as 3rd lord is placed at 3 58 Cancer, in its own Moolatrikona sign. As the Moon is placed in its own house, the 3rd house, which is a sun-like house, the Moon has 100% strength in this chart, even if it is also slightly in infancy. Moreover, the Moon is conjunct the most effective point of 3rd house at 7 46 Cancer. While the orb of the conjunction is 3 42, such that the benefit of this aspect is not powerfully felt, the strength of the 3rd lord and influence in the chart nevertheless give India a phenomenally large population. Another aspect is from the Moon's node, KETU, at 5 44 Scorpio and 7th house to both the Moon, with an orb of 1 46, and to the most effective point of the 3rd house, with an orb of 2 02'. While the strength of the Moon as 3rd lord protects it and its indications from setbacks associated with this aspect, it would likely result in a tendency for a seperate or otherworldly quality to the culture. The aspect would also produce a peculiarity to the communication and transportation activities. However, the influence of 3rd lord to its own house would outweigh this quality, giving a sense of vibrancy.

The placement of VENUS, as the lord of design, also in the 3rd house, gives phenomenal diversity. A strong 6th lord Venus, is also good for financial stability, communal health and communal harmony. A strong Venus also gives the ability to resolve conflict situations in ones favour.

A large country with abundant resources
India is a large country, with a total land area of almost 3 million square kilometers - over five times the size of France. India is bounded by the Indian Ocean on the south, the Arabian Sea on the west, and the Bay of Bengal on the east, India has a coastline of 7,517 kilometers (4,671 mi). India has the largest mountains in the world and is set on large plains with big rivers and the country is hugged by a huge coastline. The country is home to a diversity of wildlife in a variety of protected habitats. The main natural resources of India are iron ore, bauxite, and copper ore. India is one of the major producers of iron in the world. Electricity is generated with hydroelectric, coal and nuclear power. The diversity of architecture in India is stunning, although the country also has a large collection of huts and shacks. Astrologically, this is explained by the 4th lord SUN being placed at 27 59 in 3rd house, with good strength, giving large territory. Astrologer and author, V.K. Choudhry, has noted that "the fourth lord's good placement gives India tremendous resources."

Tense relations with neighbors
India is the seventh-largest country in the world in terms of geographical area. It is bordered by Pakistan to the west; China, Nepal, and Bhutan to the north-east; and Bangladesh and Myanmar to the east. India is in the vicinity of Sri Lanka, the Maldives, and Indonesia in the Indian Ocean. In the chart, 10th lord SATURN at 20 28 Cancer is combust, but its placement in a sun-like house adds to the strength, which helps to fend of problems associated with it being conjunct 6th lord VENUS at 22 33 Cancer. Nevertheless, controversies for the government would be there. With 5th lord MERCURY at 13 40 Cancer in the 3rd house, strengthens the communication.

Rapid growth but many poor people
Economic reforms since 1991 have transformed the country into one of the fastest growing economies; however, it still suffers from high levels of poverty, illiteracy, and malnutrition. There is a large gulf between the rich and poor. There is a big middle class society of the educated people. With five planets in the 3rd house gives India a dynamic economy. However, as 12th lord MARS is at 7 27 Gemini and in the most effective point (MEP) of the 2nd house, this makes India vulnerable to setbacks in wealth and status. The affliction of KETU to the 11th house would reduce the income. Some manipulation is possible given the aspect of Mars in 2nd house and RAHU at 5 44 Taurus and 1st house to the 5th house of speculation and creativity. Rahu also afflicts the 7th house of foreign affairs and 9th house of luck.

V.K. Choudhry also notes that "India is not a poor nation but has many poor people who have taken refuge in India coming from Bangladesh, Nepal, Tibet, etc. etc. India is supporting them."

Progress in analytical fields
India is a pluralistic, multilingual, and multiethnic society. India has made good progress in the field of Information technology and other intellectuals fields. Indian professions in medical, engineering, academic, IT fields, etc. are all around the world and making good contributions to the countries of their residence. This is explained by the good placement of MERCURY in the third house with the third lord MOON.

V.K. Choudhry observes that "the 3rd house planets give entrepreneurship. There are big businesses in India and some of the people are in the list of richest people in the world. Entrepreneurship and communication have given fame to Indians in many fields including in spiritual field and astrology."

He also notes that "the good placement of Mercury in the 3rd house with the 3rd lord Moon in the 3rd house give good progress to India in the field of Information technology and other intellectual fields. Indian professions in medical, engineering, academic, IT fields, etc. are all around the world and making good contributions to the countries of their residence."

Spiritual tradition
The ancient religious tradition of India is a well spring of spiritual thought. Four major world religions, Hinduism, Buddhism, Jainism and Sikhism originated there, while Zoroastrianism, Judaism, Christianity and Islam arrived in the first millennium BC. Astrologically, this is explained by SUN as 4th lord in the 3rd house, which is aspected by both 3rd lord MOON and KETU, would give ancient spiritual tradition. The aspect of RAHU and 6th lord MARS along with JUPITER in the 6th house would give strife regarding religious ideas.

History of mighty kingdoms
The rich history of India is explained by SUN, MOON, MERCURY and SATURN in the 3rd house along with VENUS. Placement of 8th lord JUPITER in the 6th house gives a controversial legacy.

Socialist republic
Following independence, India became a republic and a new constitution came into effect on 26 January 1950. The preamble of the constitution defines India as a sovereign, socialist, secular, democratic republic. Astrologically, 10th lord SATURN and 3rd lord MOON with 5th lord MERCURY and 4th lord SUN in 3rd house is consistent with a democratic form of government emphasising the rights of people.

Challenging developments
Since independence, India has faced challenges from religious violence, casteism, naxalism, terrorism and regional separatist insurgencies, especially in Jammu and Kashmir and Northeast India. Since the 1990s terrorist attacks have affected many Indian cities. India has unresolved territorial disputes with China, which in 1962 escalated into the Sino-Indian War; and with Pakistan, which resulted in wars in 1947, 1965, 1971 and 1999. The abovementioned aspects give challenges in many spheres of life, including border wars and internal strife. The multiple afflictions in the chart, involving, 8th lord Jupiter, 6th lord Venus, 12th lord Mars and the Moon's nodes, Rahu and Ketu, explain these.

A nuclear power
In 1974, India conducted an underground nuclear test and five more tests in 1998, making India a nuclear state. India maintains a "no first use" nuclear policy. India maintains the third-largest military force in the world, which consists of the Indian Army, Navy and Air Force. The President of India is the supreme commander of the Indian armed forces. In the horoscope, 12th lord MARS is afflicting 2nd house of neighbors and 8th house of death, KETU afflicting 7th house of foreign relations and 3rd house of initatives and RAHU on ascendant and 8th lord JUPITER in 6th house gives power of nuclear threat.

Mixed foreign relations
India maintains close defence cooperation with Russia, France and Israel, who are the chief suppliers of arms. Since its independence in 1947, India has maintained cordial relationships with most nations. It took a leading role in the 1950s by advocating the independence of European colonies in Africa and Asia. India was involved in two brief military interventions in neighboring countries - Indian Peace Keeping Force in Sri Lanka and Operation Cactus in Maldives. India is a member of the Commonwealth of Nations and a founding member of the Non-Aligned Movement. After the Sino-Indian War and the Indo-Pakistani War of 1965, India's relationship with the Soviet Union warmed at the expense of ties with the United States and continued to remain so until the end of the Cold War. India has fought three wars with Pakistan, primarily over Kashmir but it also facilitated the creation of Bangladesh in 1971. Additional skirmishes have taken place between the two nations particularly in 1984 over Siachen Glacier and in 1999 over Kargil. In recent years, relations between the United States and India have improved. In the economic sphere, India has close relationships with other developing nations in South America, Asia and Africa. In the chart, RAHU and KETU influence 7th house of foreign relations, 12th house MARS afflicts the 2nd house of close neighbors and along with RAHU aspects the 9th house, both of which give mixed foreign relations.

This coming week, Venus, as it retrogrades comes to form a challenge aspect with the powerful planet of the Underworld, Pluto. This brings forward the story of Persephone, the daughter of the earth mother, Demeter, also known as Demeter, her rape and forced marriage to Hades. Persephone was gathering flowers in a field, out of her mother’s sight when Hades caused the ground to open up and he swept her into his chariot and took her down into the Underworld. As with all things Plutonian, Hades saw what he wanted and took it.
This story, though not often told, is important, because its marks a period in human history where matriarchal cultures who worshipped the Goddess were overturned. This happened by stunning earth changes:the Theran volcanic explosion around 1600 B.C. and the invasion of the warrior civilization the Mycenaeans.

October 2004, Kabul. Solar Chart.
This is actually quite an auspicious horoscope with a massive stellium in Libra, much like the horoscope for the United Nations, reflecting an ardent desire for peace and justice. The weakness in the chart may lie in the position of the Sun and Mars in Libra, where they are traditionally weak, suggesting that only skilled diplomacy can secure the continued stability of the Karzai government. American sources constantly refer to Karzai as weak, but looking at the options, he may be the one who at least can deliver peace. With Neptune in Aquarius trining the Libra stellium, there is a suggestion that the Kabul government may be living in a bubble, and the Moon in Leo may show a priveleged few, whilst Venus in Virgo (in fall) opposing Uranus may tell a different and harder story for those who struggle in the countryside, where the main export turns out to be opium.
Considering the history of Afghanistan, it is amazing that western governments continue to get involved. When they do they inevitably incur the wrath of the people, or at least those who do not live in Kabul, and end up paying a price that is very high. Still, the USA feel that they have unfinished business in the country after 9/11 and President Obama has already ordered 17,000 additional troops, saying the war against the Taleban is still winnable, though suggesting than compromises with some Taleban leaders should be made.
Many of the historical landmarks mentioned in this article show planets in the first degrees of cardinal signs, particularly early Capricorn. For example the nodal axis was at 7 Cancer/Capricorn at the 1973 coup, square Pluto at 2 Libra. Daoud was killed with the moon at 2 Capricorn opposition Jupiter 2 Cancer square the nodes at 5 Libra/Aries. Taraki was killed with the moon at 3 Cancer. The Soviet invasion took place with the Sun at 2 Capricorn. The Islamic State was declared with the Nodes at 2 Capricorn/Cancer square Mercury in Aries. And Karzai was elected with Jupiter at 3 Libra.
This suggests that the current Pluto transit in Capricorn will bring renewed transformation to Afghanistan, particularly when activated by the coming square of Saturn in Libra which repeats three times at 3 degrees Libra/Capricorn. This makes the continued existence of the Karzai government rather doubtful, and a growing build up of military pressure via NATO more certain. NATO itself has Uranus at 4 Cancer squares Venus 4 Libra, so clearly the Saturn/Pluto square will prove to be a huge drain on the resources of the countries involved, not least the USA with its Venus at 3 degrees Cancer. The Uranus/Venus square does indicate rather rash involvement trying to establish justice in distant lands, and it is in this area that the organization will be tested over the coming two years.
