Thyroid Cancer- What is Nearest

  • Jul. 5th, 2009 at 6:43 AM
With the passing of Michael Jackson today, one of our generations biggest icons, my initial response was sad.
A few minutes later that had passed and I started to think about the child abuse allegations that he had been accused of in the last few years.
I loved Michael Jackson growing up. I think he had talent.  I think he was an amazing dancer and entertainer and he took rock star to a new level.  I still turn the radio up when I hear his songs.  I am not questioning his talent nor his contributions to the entertainment industry, but as a mother his child abuse allegations are extremely disturbing to me.
Michael Jackson was a great singer and a pop icon- I liked his music and my family and I actually met him through a family friend in 1984.
However, I feel Michael Jackson (MJ) was a *serial* child molester / pedophile, or whatever term you want to use.
Non-molesters dont have young boys over to sleep in their beds then pay out millions to keep it quiet. Michael Jackson befriended young boys, sometimes from disadvantaged backgrounds, and then took them to his ranch, banning their parents.
This is a HUGE red flag.  If MJ loved children so much, why didnt he befriend them at Disneyland? Take them to public places, have their parents along, or just even go hang out at these childrens homes?
Giving MJ the benefit of the doubt, and assuming he was victimized by these families out to destroy him and get money from him, which is what MJ claimed, he should have never had put himself in a situation like this again after the first allegation. But he did, and he chose to do this- still taking the boys to his private ranch.
It is interesting how so many other celebrities like Angelina Jolie, Brad Pitt, Madonna, Meg Ryan, Mia Farrow, etc., can have big hearts for children and work with them, and yet none of them have been claiming they have been falsely accused of molestation for money.  No child can describe Brad Pitts genitalia like one of  Michael Jacksons alleged abuser could. I dont consider Michael Jackson bigger than , and there have been no claims of inappropriate sleep overs from the Jolie-Pitt house.  So I dont buy into the money claim.
The FACTS are MJ was arrested once and accused twice of child molestation.  He settled out of court once, and found not guilty once. Both times the details have been sealed, and millions of dollars were paid out.  If he had nothing to hide, why not let the facts get out there to clear his name? Celebrities get accused of false things all the time, but very few of them get arrested, and hide the details-twice.
The case would never have gone to trial without sufficient evidence in the 2005 case, where Michael and the boy were discovered sleeping in bed together. How many other celebrities are having sleep overs with minor children in their houses with doors locked, and parents banned?
How many just normal parents have sleepovers like this with their childrens friends?    I can imagine the outrage if a Boy Scout leader was found sleeping in his tent with boy scouts on on an overnight camping trip.  Parents and the public would be outraged-as we should be.  But since this is MJ and he could do the moon-walk, these facts are pushed to the background-suddenly a 40 year old man who has 13 year old boys sleep with him in bed, doesnt matter.
I view this like OJ Simpson. He never got convicted and was found not guilty either of killing his wife and Ron Goldman, but he had a lot of money, and was able to create doubt. Even if he could run with a football.  Are there any people out there ten plus years later that dont think OJ had something to do with the murders of his wife and her friend?  Even though the jury said he didnt?
I dont care what talent in life you have- if you put yourself in compromising positions when you are under a spotlight, especially with minor children, you create suspicion on yourself.  You have to be even more careful.     If they ever release the evidence and the facts of the cases about these boys and Michel Jackson comes to light that he was completely innocent, I will be the first to apologize for doubting Mr. Jacksons innocence.
Michael Jacksons family has my sympathy- no family should have to lose a loved one, but I am more sorry for the families of MJs victims and the position these young boys were put in by an ADULT man who should have known better not to have young boys locked in his bedroom sleeping in the same bed with him. Some things in life, you just dont get to do- and this is one of them.
I dont care if you can throw a football, raise money for children in Africa, run with a football, dance, sing, or are the greatest entertainer in the world.  Putting yourself in compromising positions over and over again with young children, that raises a question of inappropriate behavior with them is wrong.  No matter who you are.
There is no free pass for taking advantage and molesting children. Dont take them in your bed to sleep with them.  Dont lock the door to the bedroom, and dont ban the parents.  Seems pretty simple to me.  We all make mistakes, and no one is perfect. How could MJ NOT have known or had not been advised to do this-  but he chose to do it anyway.
The world lost a great entertainer, but his victims have lost their innocence too.  They will never get that back.  Victimizing the most vulnerable in our society is unforgivable, and I for one, cant help but feel somewhat relieved that there is one less person putting innocent children in compromising situations.

When I first know the news about Michael Jacksons death, I was totally shocked. It was like a sudden death to me. Everybody knows Michael Jackson, no matter old or young people.
Lindsay Lohan wrote this in Twitter pertaining the late Michael, “NO OMG sending my love and prayers out to Michael and his family, “r.i.p. Michael Jackson my love and prayers go out to the Jackson family.. you are not alone -mj”
Even her on and off Sam Ronson wrote someting about him, “Say what you want about Michael Jackson’s private life (just not near me) but NO ONE can deny his talent, his compassion and his legacy. His music is just as relevant now as it was the day they pressed record, I’m sure it will remain so for generations to come.R.I.P.Mr Jackson.

Charlotte's Web
A star-studded list of movie stars lend their voices in the 2006 re-make of the much-loved children's story by E.B. White. Dakota Fanning plays Fern, a farm girl and animal lover who saves a piglet from slaughter and names him Wilbur. Julia Roberts is the voice of Charlotte, the spider who promises to help keep Wilbur alive, while Steve Buschemi is pitch-perfect as the voice of sly, old Templeton the rat. Other voices you may recognize among the barnyard animals are Oprah as Gussy the goose and Robert Redford as Ike, the horse. Full of witty repartee and comedic moments, the 2006 film is enormously entertaining especially with its combination of live action and computer-generated graphics.

Free Willy
You know a movie's good if it's been spoofed by "The Simpsons" and "South Park." In "Free Willy," a 12 year-old boy is saved from a path of juvenile delinquency by a chance meeting with a killer whale in an aquarium. When boy meets whale, it's the unlikeliest of friendships. But one worth watching.

The Bear
You hardly notice the lack of dialogue and narration in this quiet film about a baby bear struggling to survive on his own after his mother is killed. The cub is chased by hunters and stalked by a cougar, but has the good fortune of meeting an older, male grizzly who becomes his protector. Featuring the ruggedly beautiful scenery of the Dolomites, "The Bear" shows that humans can learn a thing or two from animals, including the notion of compassion.

Lassie
Whether you're watching the original 1943 movie, "Lassie Come Home" or one of the later remakes (the 1994 and 2005 versions are particular favorites) the story of Lassie truly is "one of the greatest stories of loyalty and love ever told." Who cares if Lassie was just a fictional character made up by author Eric Knight in 1940? The legendary brown and white collie is as real to us as one of our own pets.

Memorial Day is a day for remembrance and reflection.  This Memorial Day, I
have been remembering and reflecting upon a question that I never fully
answered when I was inside and that still confounds me even now when I have more time to ponder.  Is it appropriate for Americans to see the military as heroes and, if so, what role should political leaders play in that?

There are discernible differences between the parties on this topic, and
these differences have evolved over time.  At the risk of great
simplification just to spark reflection, since the Vietnam War era
Republicans have alternated between a military as victim and military as
hero narrative.  During the late Vietnam and early post-Vietnam era, the
military as victim narrative dominated in Republican circles.  Soldiers were
victims of bad (mainly Democratic) political leadership who made strategic
blunders and cost them victory.  Reagan harnessed the emotion that sprung
from that narrative but spun it around into a military as hero narrative
that fueled the Republican-led defense build-up and culminated in the Desert Storm victory that President Bush (41) claimed vanquished the Vietnam Syndrome.  However, by the mid-1990's, Republicans were tending to view the military as a victim again, this time a victim of Democratic policies that had them promiscuously engaged in frivolous nation-building exercises around the world or of dubious social engineering policies, while dangerously depleting funds from basic readiness and training accounts.  Help was on the way, President Bush (43) promised, and since his election the military as hero narrative has dominated Republican discourse.  To be sure, grumbling within Republican ranks about the strain on the force caused by the simultaneous pursuit of the Afghan and Iraq wars along with Rumsfeld's
transformation agenda, has shown up in occasional military as victim
storylines.  And those storylines may be growing within Republican ranks as
President Obama puts his personal stamp on national security policy.  But I
would say the dominant Republican narrative remains military as hero.

For Democrats, or at least for an influential and prominent strand within
the Democratic party, the narrative has oscillated between military as
perpetrator and military as victim narratives.  The military as
perpetrator narrative was prominent in critiques about military abuses
during the Vietnam War, in critiques about military spending during the
Reagan build-up, and in critiques about military atavism on social policy
during the 1990s years; think My Lai massacre, and $600 toilet seats,
and   But Democrats have more recently given more prominent play to a military as victim narrative that culminated in the role that wounded vets and the families of slain soldiers played in the election cycles of 2004, 2006, and 2008.  Abuses during the Iraq war have led some to flirt
with a military as perpetrator narrative -- as in Murtha's comments about
the Haditha killings -- but in the main, Democrats view the perpetrators to
be President Bush and his top civilian team and the military to be the
victims on whom the wrongs have been perpetrated.

These lines are blurry.  After all, the Reagan defense build-up actually
began under President Carter so arguably it was Democrats who began the push to revive the military as heroes.  And sometimes the military as victim narrative is spun into a military as heroic victim, as when Democrats hail General Shinseki for challenging Rumsfeld on Iraq policy.  And Democrats have worked hard to purge the military as perpetrator narrative from their ranks because they recognize that it is electorally toxic; the deliberate cultivation of military as victim is due, I am sure, to political leaders recognizing that it offers Democrats a sweet spot of empathizing with a popular institution while maintaining a scorched earth critique of Republican national security policies.  It also goes without saying that the true picture of the military is complicated and probably an amalgam of all of these narratives (and more besides).

Yet, if I am right in broad terms about the ebb and flow of these narratives
and the role of the political parties in promoting them, my underlying
question remains unanswered -- multiple questions, actually.  What is the
appropriate mix of narratives?  Does the remarkably high regard the public
holds for the military indicate that the public is duped by these
narratives, or that the public is able to see through them to some deeper
narrative?  Can we celebrate the military as hero narrative without giving
way to militarism?

For my part, I wish the Democratic party would feel more comfortable with
the military as hero narrative.  I wish they could more often celebrate a
military hero on his or her own terms -- as someone who accomplished a very difficult and noble mission against a determined foe.  But I don't think it would be healthy for that to be the only narrative available.  And I don't
think it is healthy for Republicans to promote only the military as hero
narrative.

War is hell, and the human costs of war are a great tragedy.  As a nation,
we must not forget that.  Like the slave who whispered, remember you are
mortal to the Roman military hero in the victor's parade, these other
narratives are a useful reminder of some painful truths about the military.

So this Memorial Day, and every day, it is worth asking our political
leaders from both parties to see and present a more complete picture.  And
we, as engaged citizens, should reflect on the heroism, sacrifice, and
blunders that comprise our nation's long military record.  We should thank
the military and their families for their service -- celebrating the heroes,
caring for the victims, and holding accountable those who erred.

I received the following from IndictBushNow.org and since I can't link to it I present it all here.
The cover-up of Bush-era crimes is taking a shocking but not unexpected turn. A fateful move has been made and it is certain to backfire.
A prisoner who was horribly tortured in 2002 until he agreed - at the demand of Bush torturers - to say that al-Qaeda was linked to Saddam Hussein is suddenly dead. Several weeks ago, Human Rights Watch investigators discovered the missing inmate and talked to him. He had been secretly transferred by the administration to a prison in Libya after having been held by the CIA both in secret black hole prisons and in Egypt.
Under conditions of extreme torture, the prisoner, Ibn al-Sheikh al-Libi, agreed in 2002 to supply the Bush-ordered interrogators what they sought as a political cover for Bushs marketing of the pending war of aggression against Iraq. Mr. Libi agreed to tell them whatever they wanted in exchange for an end to the torture. The now famous Torture Memos providing legal cover for the torture were written at the same time starting in the summer of 2002.
Libis tortured and knowingly fabricated testimony was the source of information used by Bush to sell the war to the U.S. Senate, and the source for Colin Powells bogus and lying presentation to the United Nations in 2003.
Bush, Cheney, Rumsfeld and Rice are now running around saying that the torture regime protected the country from terrorist attack. But the torture was used for the personal political goals of Bush and Cheney: namely, to sell their Iraq invasion to a very skeptical and disbelieving country.
Having been discovered by human rights investigators two weeks ago, Mr. Libis story coincided with the release of the Torture Memos and the growing clamor for criminal prosecutions of Bush officials. His testimony is the smoking gun that would reveal that the torture regime was not for national security but for the personal political aims of Bush and Cheney.
He was Exhibit A in the indictment that alleges that tortured confessions and the contrived legal justifications of torture set up by Justice Department lawyers in July/August 2002 were central to the launch of the war against Iraq.
Hundreds of thousands of Iraqis have died and tens of thousands of U.S. service members have either been killed or badly wounded in a war that was based on lies fortified and promoted by the most sadistic torture.
Mr. Libi is suddenly dead. A Libyan newspaper source says that his death is an apparent suicide. His friends dont believe that.
We are building a movement for the appointment of a Special Prosecutor. This is not a political choice. It is a legal imperative. Mr. Libis death must be the first business of the investigation. When other prisoners who had been kept at secret sites were sent to Guantanamo, the Bush administration and the CIA intentionally kept Mr. Libi from being part of that transfer. Mr. Libi was publicly stating that the Iraq-al-Qaeda links attributed to him from his torture sessions were not true.
Who was the beneficiary from his death? Why was he spirited away by the Bush administration to hidden foreign prisons after he recanted his tortured testimony and revealed that he was forced to make false statements about Iraq under torture?
IndictBushNow.org is joining with the Partnership for Civil Justice Fund and the ANSWER Coalition to demand that the truth be told. We have filed a Freedom of Information Act Request (FOIA) with the CIA, Department of Defense, Department of State and other agencies to reveal information in their possession about Libis imprisonment, torture, false testimony on Iraq and the circumstances of his death. To read a copy of the FOIA, click this link.

The day before being admitted for treatment, Naners and many of us on Team Naners spent a special day together in Toronto. We had dinner and bellinis at Milestones and then attended a viewing of Shrek at a downtown theatre. We had the best time. It was a day that many of us hold in our hearts dearly. The next day, the doctors at Princess Margaret Hospital went to work immediately and treated Naners for his cancer.

In September 2001 Naners was diagnosed in remission and was cancer free. He remained in remission for a few months. During this time, Naners made plans for his bright future. As any young man of his age he had the world at his feet. He made plans to apprentice as an electrician and continually sought out ways to be helpful and friendly to everyone.

Not too long after, in March 2002, the doctors became concerned and after conducting a few tests, we found out that Naners had relapsed and the cancer had morphed. But Naners Never Gave In.

We learned he was a candidate for a stem cell transplant and luckily - his big brother John was a perfect match. In June 2002 Naners received his brothers stem cells. The transplant was a success. Naners body accepted the transplant and there were no longer any signs of cancer in his tests.

During his recovery, Naners suffered major side-effects of cancer treatment; in particular - Graft Versus Host Disease (GVHD), which is very common in transplant patients. Some GVHD can be acute and others chronic, which is what Hernani was faced with. Many of his organs became compromised, including his lungs, which eventually lead to him to requiring oxygen support. But Naners never allowed that to get his spirits down. Numerous times Naners had close calls and set-backs. He spent a lot of time in hospitals with his parents and family by his side. Small things precious things like foot and leg massages by his big sister, cards and drawings by his nieces and nephew, and comic relief by his brother are memories and reminders of love and support.

Regardless of whatever was thrown at him, Naners was a fighter and he clung to life with an iron grip.

In the years Naners was alive, he touchedcountless hearts, made friends and was known as a peacemaker. We know that Naners is no longer in pain and he doesn't feel the sickness he felt the last seven years. His death hurts and we miss him so much, every single day. But life has to go on. The sun rises every morning, regardless of whether or not it should.

In the days leading up to when he passed away, Naners had deep and meaning moments with each of us. Walking like a one-man army with a heart wide open - one by one, hour by hour, Naners visited with family and friends to say what needed to be said. He passed away peacefully with his family and godmother by his side. His energy and legacy of love lives on in us.

Naners was incredibly strong and at peace with his fate - He told us that he wanted us to go on with our lives and pledged that he would watch over us. So here we are...

The Ride to Conquer Cancer presented itself at a time when we were grieving when we were sad, angry and helpless. Team Naners is our solution to healing and hope by proactively and positively honouring Naners incredible life and spirit.

In his name we will help to conquer cancer in our lifetime and like him we will Never Give In.

This class of inventions could wipe out oil crises and help solve environmental problems. More commonly called free energy or fuelless electric generators, they put out more power than goes into them from any previously recognized source. No batteries, no fuel tank and no link with a wall socket. Instead, they tap an invisible source of power. Such unorthodox clean energy-producing devices exist today and were built as far back as the l9th century.
Forget the Rube Goldberg mechanical perpetual motion contraptions; they had to stop eventually. In contrast, new solid-state (no moving parts) energy converters are said to draw from an energy field in surrounding space. This source of abundant power is known by physicists as the zero-point quantum fluctuations of vacuum space. Zero-point refers to the fact that even at a temperature at which heat movement in molecules stops cold, zero degrees Kelvin, there is still a jiggling movement, said to be from interdimensional fluctuations or cosmic energy. Magnetism and vortexian or spin-upon-a-spin motions seem to line up these random fluctuations of space and put them to work, as in the Searl Effect (Atlantis Rising, first issue).
Inventors give various names to their space-energy converters. In the 1930s a scientist in Utah, T. Henry Moray, invented a Radiant Energy device powered from the sea of energy in which the earth floats. This sea that surrounds us, Moray said, is packed with rays which constantly pierce the earth from all directions, perhaps from countless galaxies. Converting this cosmic background radiation into a strange cold form of electricity, his device lit incandescent bulbs, heated a flat iron and ran a motor. His sons say he was thanked with bullets and other harassments, but thats another story.
A spiritual commune in Switzerland had a tabletop free energy device running in greenhouses for years, but members feared that outsiders would turn the technology into weaponry. Before the commune closed its doors to snoopers, European engineers witnessed the converter putting out thousands of watts. However, most other unorthodox energy technologies are still at the stage of unreliable, crude prototypes. (So was the Wrights first airplane; it only flew about a hundred feet.)
The inventor of AC (alternating current) electrical generating and transmission systems, the genius Nikola Tesla (1857-1943), was said to have run a Pierce-Arrow car on a free energy device in the 1930s. Although thats difficult to document now, we have his word that its possible. It is a mere question of time when men will succeed in attaching their machinery to the very wheelwork of nature, said Tesla.
It may have been done before Teslas time. Among the free energy inventions of John Worrell Keely (1827-1898) is the Hydro Pneumo-Pulsating-Vacuo motor that used cavitation (implosion) of water. Although Keely reached an advanced understanding of the science of vibrations, he failed to develop machines which other people could operate. Progress continues from other directions, a company in Georgia is selling water cavitation devices that range from 110 per cent to 300 per cent efficient.
Up in Vancouver, Canada, Tesla researcher John Hutchison says he has a feel for the natural flows of a subtle primal energy. In the spring of 1995 he showed his latest invention to the author and a mechanical engineer. The Hutchison Converter involves crystalline materials and the principle of electrical resonance. He twirls a few knobs to tune it, and the energy flow is amplified until it runs a one-inch diameter Radio Shack motor. The whirring of a small propeller isnt too impressive until you remember that there are no batteries and the device runs for days at a time.
The garage inventors come from many backgrounds. Wingate Lambertson Ph.D. of Florida, former executive director of Kentuckys science and technology commission, invented a device which converts the space energy fluctuations into electricity which lights a row of lamps. This dignified former professor took a roundabout route to the free-energy scene. In the mid-1960s he read There Is a River by Thomas Sugree, who writes about the destruction of Atlantis through misuse of a crystal energy collector. Lambertsons psychic friend later offered to collaborate on replicating the first Atlantean energy converter, but Lambertson eventually turned to his own knowledge of ceramics and metals to develop an energy converter. Neither his nor other known zero-point energy conversion methods of today are based on the first Atlantean crystal method, because the researchers found better methods. Also, the concept of a central power station providing electric power to a nation is obsolete, says Dr. Lambertson. Small energy converters will follow the path of the personal converter.

Last night we spent close to 6 hours watching the Lord Of the Rings - Return Of the King extended edition and commentary. It's one of our absolute favorite movies and Ruben is all into his, err our new receiver for the surround sound that requires two more speakers we are still waiting on which will bring us to NINE speakers. How much you wanna bet we blow some windows out when it's all rigged up? Anyway, my point about that movie - though it is a spectacular film, is that the film has like 25 different points at which you think is the end. One scene even fades out, then right back in. It drags on forever, but I love the way everything is wrapped up nice and neat. I look forward to watching The Hobbit whenever it actually gets made - which in this economy who has $50 million for a film budget?

Speaking of economy - have you seen that new Allstate commercial? The one that says it opened it's doors in 1934 and has survived the 12 recessions since? TWELVE? Good God. I know we'll eventually get through this, but all I can wonder is WTF brought each one on? Greed? Power? Stupid ass Presidents? All I know is Mr. Bush certainly screwed things up for us this time, and because he has run this country into the ground, my husband and I were forced to have a discussion I hope never comes a reality. His mom mentioned moving here, yet in this economy she'll never sell the house as a friend of mine has had her house on the market for like a year. Then affording a house here will be hard - especially finding a job. She's worked at a casino for the last 15 years. The biggest casino here is in the French Quarter - 20 miles away, not some place we drive too - oh, and I forgot to mention for those of you that don't know us personally - my mother in law has never driven. His family is old school Mexican and many of the females never learned to drive. Hell I don't even know if the bus runs near here. It's all too much for me to worry about, because there are some dangerous places around here....and let's not forget the hurricanes. I don't know if I could handle 4 adult people living with us for who knows how long. But having family near would be nice. It's just a very scary thought!

Oh, and last week I was talking about computer problems - well they're not resolved yet, but I *think* Ruben's computer is hanging on by a thread. Last night it wouldn't boot up at all at first, then it would slightly but freeze or go black. Today it has booted up, frozen, recovered, and is in the process of scans right now, that aren't going anywhere. However, if he stops the tasks, it does appear to be working! What really sucks is his warranty expired last month. I fear having to purchase another laptop, let alone two. He's especially hard on his as his first had problems just after a year - it's still running and our daughter uses it now, but the dvd drive died. So we'll see what happens - but keep your fingers crossed! If we have to go back to our desktops then neither of us will be spending much time online, otherwise we'll be overheated in there......have you seen the size of our desktop monitors? They are HUGE, and they put out so much heat!

Here's a little humor for ya if you've been following me. We got our humidor and the cigar cutter Friday - and then the "cigars" showed up. Well the Havana Honeys Ruben bought...some vanilla flavored cigars he's had in the past - well there was a little mis-understanding with what he was ordering - and I as an ex-smoker should have realized what was actually being bought. We ended up with 2 CARTONS of Havana Honey vanilla flavored cigarettes. 2 CARTONS! They aren't even cigars! I like them, but we both feel that it may be bad to have something like this around, cause I might smoke them more frequently than I should because of stress or something. So now we wonder how we're going to unload all these packs of cigarettes. Ugh. Maybe this whole thing was a bad idea....the vanilla tastes so good, but no matter how it's packaged or sold, it is still a cigarette and not a cigar. The difference being a cigar is something you smoke maybe once a month. Granted the cigarettes are filtered, but it's easier to smoke these bitty things cause they burn faster. Bad, bad, bad. If we can't unload them Ruben will be putting at least one carton in the trash!

Next week is going to be crazy! Tomorrow may be a holiday, but Tuesday I have an appointment with a dermatologist, plus my book review - which I'll post more on later. Wednesday I see my plastic surgeon and Natalie has a doctors appointment. Thursday I have an appointment waaayy too early over at the hospital for pain management. The problem here is that the bridge is closed to one lane, traffic is horrible, and I have NO MEDICAL RECORDS. My previous pain doctor closed his office here and never transferred over my records and no one has returned my call. I am PISSED off he's done this to me after being a patient of his for over a year. I'm hoping my rx bottles will help, but with no records I'm not sure if I'll be able to stay on the same treatment regimen. Friday the groomer is coming, thank goodness cause the dog stinks and Natalie has another doctor appointment. She's become excessively worried over the last year and we want her to talk with someone. It all started or progressed cause some kid on the bus told her I was going to die. We'll see if talking with someone other than us will help. The thought of doing all these things while my face is still healing kills me, but at least my face is still horribly scarred from whatever it is I have, for the dermatologist can see it. And if they tell me one more time to use Cetaphil, I think I might lose it!

Ok, so I know this has been a long post - but I want to say a little more about my upcoming book review. I'm very nervous going into this. As most of you have guessed by now, I'm no writer. My blogging lacks the proper use of grammar and punctuation.....and some time it includes lots of typo's. My education is a very faint memory. Chemo stole my mind, my thoughts and left me with this fog I just can't shake. My mind jumps from one topic to the next, and I forget things so easily causing me to always take notes and live life by a written list of things to do. I worry my review will be sub par - that it won't be worthy of the book for which it was written. I guess only time will tell. We'll see what kind of traffic I bring in on Tuesday, and if anyone shares their thoughts with me. This book review was a passion project for me, and is something close to my heart - cause it's supporting my cause - breast cancer. Bringing awareness to the disease - which thankfully I am free of at the time. But just cause I am in remission, it does not change things for me. Breast cancer will forever be a part of my life.

I think I have bored you enough for one day. You probably won't hear much from me next week cause it's so busy....unless I send a post from my phone. Then the following week is my 35th birthday on the 26th. I have court for my traffic accident on the 28th - fun....but at least I was let off a bit for my speeding ticket. No court, doesn't go on my record, but I paid a hefty fine - which is why Ruben bought me a radar/laser detector for my birthday. LOL. Then the 30th is my 9th anniversary - which is after my daughter's 9th birthday, but a month before the 10 year anniversary of our first "real" date. So we've got lots going on here. We're bombarded with birthdays till March.

Treatment of inflammatory breast cancer depends largely upon whether your cancer has spread to other organs. Inflammatory breast cancer will most likely need a team of doctors to determine the best course of treatment. Patients will receive aggressive treatment because inflammatory breast cancer is a late stage cancer. This means you will most likely receive chemotherapy, surgery and radiation therapy. You will most likely receive chemotherapy first because this cancer makes performing surgery first risky due to the skin changes it causes.
Chemotherapy also works to shrink the size of the cancer, making it more likely that surgery will remove all of it. Chemotherapy for inflammatory breast cancer can use trastuzumab and lapatinib. Choose the expert to treat inflammatory breast cancer is very important. Its guarantee that the patients will get the specific chemotherapy dose.
The surgery that most women choose with this cancer is a mastectomy, or complete removal of the affected breast. This is because the cancer is often widespread throughout the breast, making a surgery that preserves breast tissue highly unlikely. During surgery of inflammatory breast cancer, the surgeon will probably remove the lymph nodes under arm to examine them for cancer.
After surgery, you will most likely receive radiation therapy to complete the treatment of inflammatory breast cancer. Radiation therapy is used to kill any cancer cells that the surgeon may have missed and to help prevent the cancer from returning. The patient may require two treatments of radiation therapy a day rather than only one treatment, as inflammatory breast cancer is a rapid growing cancer. This is where the importance of an experienced radiologist in inflammatory breast cancer is necessary.
Inflammatory breast cancer has a high incidence of recurrence, so the doctor may prescribe additional rounds of chemotherapy if it responded well to the previous rounds. Hormone therapy can be given if the inflammatory breast cancer was the type that grew in the presence of estrogen.

Andropause and Hair Loss by Cathy Taylor
Andropause and hair loss often go hand in hand. Imagine clumps of hair falling off your head, or observing strands of once healthy hair collecting in the shower drain. Maybe you run your hand through your hair and feel it thinning. It can feel daunting and quite scary.
Typically, hair loss is a result of an imbalance of male testosterone hormone in the body. Instead of infusing the hair with healthy testosterone, enzymes break it down to a simpler form known as dihydrotestosterone.
An excess of this hormone has the effect of decreasing the size of hair follicles which eventually break down and make your hair fall off sporadically. The medical condition that is best associated with hair loss in Andropause sufferers is hyperthyroidism. Hyperthyroidism is a by-product of decreasing levels of Human Growth Hormone, which is responsible for regulating our aging process. Andropause sufferers’ hormones have a profound effect on the rate and consistency of hair loss. Dihydrotestosterone (considered by medical circles the strongest, most potent form of testosterone) is responsible for building and growing body hair in men (at normal levels - an excess causes hair degeneration.)
This includes body hair, pubic hair, head hair, armpit hair – any hair. DHT is directly produced in the skin, made to work by supporting enzymes that break it down for distribution throughout the body. DHT levels are present more in certain areas of the body than in others – explaining why we may have a full crop of hair on our heads and little bushes of hair on our chests and backs. Realize, women also have DHT in their bodies but produce less of it.
That explains why women don’t have body hair. Case in point: an excess of DHT is prevalent in Andropause sufferers, explaining the reason for hair loss. The enzyme used to break down testosterone to dihydrotestosterone is ¨over activated¨ - working too hard and too fast.
This is the primary cause for this Andropausal condition. As aforementioned, dihydrotestosterone is present more in certain areas of the body than in others. For this reason, men’s hair can fall into funny patterns. You know, the balding train station clerk you might have seen with more hair on his scalp than the top of his head. The shrinking of hair follicles as a result of the production of DHT is attributed to this.
How hair grows is a wondrous thing in itself that needs to be recognized. Typically, hair grows at a rate of a quarter inch every 2 weeks. Andropause sufferers have their ¨hair growth cycles¨ disrupted when there is erratic growth of some hair strands where ¨new¨ hair pushed ¨old¨ hair out. Because Andropause is a period of hormonal imbalance, a lack of hormonal stability and poor homeostasis (holistic balance) in the body pushes things out of whack.
If you want to maintain healthy strands of hair, one thing you can do is hit that stair climber machine fellas! Exercise reverses the aging process and may certainly reverse this symptom. There are also hair loss products that can help you recapture your hair.
Secondary causes of hair loss in men suffering Andropause is stress. More specifically, stress raises the levels of cortisol and cortisone (known as stress hormones) in the body. Eating non-nutritional foods also speeds up hair loss.
Pretty much any activity that speeds up the aging process will speed up your hair loss.
Stay away from caffeinated drinks, fast foods, and cigarette smoking to keep running your hands through your thick mane longer. Participate in recreational activities to reduce stress and light up your life with a proper exercise regimen.
If you’re suffering from this condition, don’t let it affect you in the least bit! Andropause should not serve as a punishment – rather, a realization of a future for the better.

We're back, and it was wonderful. No travel problems, and we found ourselves at a great resort. Hidden Beach has only 41 rooms, but it's next door to a sister resort with over 130. Come to think of it, it's rather like living in Marlborough next to Keene -- all the advantages of quiet and privacy, but we had access to the five restaurants at El Dorado Suites besides the very good one at our resort. One of the pictures above shows the view out of our window looking down on ocean and the dining area.
It's good to be pampered. It's especially good to be pampered by people who think that what I'm speaking is really Spanish. One of the waiters assured me that I had "un accento muy fluido", which I hope doesn't mean "very sloppy." Other guests were from Europe, so Jerry carried on a long conversation with a German, in German, which blew me away, since it's been a few years since he's used the language. I was impressed even after he told me that he hadn't been quite sure what they were talking about.
We met fascinating people -- from the Cockney couple with a small ironing business who'd saved up for the trip all year, to the upper manager at Chase Manhattan Bank who complained that he used to make over $1,000,000/year before bonuses of course, and that recently his salary has been cut and he doesn't get the bonuses. His wife was still wearing some rather nice diamonds, though, so I didn't really feel their pain.
I did yoga every day, the effects of which offset some of the delicious meals. And Jerry joined a couple of the daily water volleyball games. The games got wilder as they went along, because of complicated rules that involved downing tequila shots for hitting the ball out of bounds.
The catamaran pictures were from our only offsite trip, a day of snorkeling -- only four couples on a trip designed for 25 or 30 people, so we had plenty of room to spread out and enjoy. I'd forgotten how much I enjoy snorkeling, just lying on the water and watching the panorama spread out below. Then the crew rigged a spinnaker with a swing dangling from it and whoever wanted to sailed up behind the boat. Jerry loved it.
The other pictures? Jerry in one of the robes provided by the resort, just included to prove that lilac isn't his color; me trying to look vampish on the bed in our room, and not trying for any effect in one of the hammocks hanging around.
It couldn't have been a better vacation.
Best of all, it was a vacation from cancer.

Breast cancer usually begins with the formation of a small, confined tumor. Some tumors are benign, meaning they do not invade other tissue; others are malignant, or cancerous. Malignant tumors have the potential to metastasize, or spread. Once such a tumor grows to a certain size, it is more likely to shed cells that spread to other parts of the body through the bloodstream and lymphatic system. Different types of breast cancer grow and spread at different rates; some take years to spread beyond the breast, while others move quickly.
Men can get breast cancer, too, but they account for less than one-half of one percent of all cases. Among women, breast cancer is the most common cancer and the second leading cause of cancer deaths -- behind lung cancer.
If eight women were to live to be at least 85, one of them would be expected to develop the disease at some point during her life. Two-thirds of women with breast cancer are over 50, and most of the rest are between 39 and 49.
Fortunately, breast cancer is very treatable if detected early. Localized tumors can usually be treated successfully before the cancer spreads; and in nine in 10 cases, the woman will live at least another five years. Experts usually consider a five-year survival to be a cure.
Once the cancer begins to spread, getting rid of it completely is more difficult, although treatment can often control the disease for years. Improved screening procedures and treatment options mean that at least seven out of 10 women with breast cancer will survive more than five years after initial diagnosis, and half will survive more than 10 years.
What Causes Breast Cancer?
Although the precise causes of breast cancer are unclear, we know what the main risk factors are. Still, most women considered at high risk for breast cancer do not get it, while many who do have no known risk factors. Among the most significant factors are advancing age and a family history of breast cancer. Risk increases slightly for a woman who has had a benign breast lump and increases significantly for a woman who has previously had cancer of the breast or the ovaries.
A woman whose mother, sister, or daughter has had breast cancer is two to three times more likely to develop the disease, particularly if more than one first-degree relative has been affected. Researchers have now identified two genes responsible for some instances of familial breast cancer -- called
CA1 and
CA2. About one woman in 200 carries it. Having the gene predisposes a woman to breast cancer but does not ensure that she will get it.
Generally, women over 50 are more likely to get breast cancer than younger women, and African-American women are more likely than Caucasions to get breast cancer before menopause.
A link between breast cancer and hormones is gradually becoming clearer. Researchers think that the greater a woman's exposure to the hormone estrogen, the more susceptible she is to breast cancer. Estrogen tells cells to divide; the more the cells divide, the more likely they are to be abnormal in some way, possibly becoming cancerous.
A woman's exposure to estrogen and progesterone rises and falls during her lifetime, influenced by the age she starts and stops menstruating, the average length of her menstrual cycle, and her age at first childbirth. A woman's risk for breast cancer is increased if she starts menstruating before age 12, has her first child after 30, stops menstruating after 55, or has a menstrual cycle shorter or longer than the average 26-29 days. Current information indicates that the hormones in birth control pills probably do not increase the risk. Some studies suggest that taking hormone replacement therapy after menopause may increase risk, especially when taken for more than 5 years. The jury is still somewhat out on this matter though. Heavy doses of radiation therapy may also be a factor, but low-dose mammograms pose almost no risk.
The link between diet and breast cancer is debated. Obesity is a noteworthy risk factor, and drinking alcohol regularly -- more than a couple of drinks a day -- may promote the disease. Many studies have shown that women whose diets are high in fat are more likely to get the disease. Researchers suspect that if a woman lowers her daily calories from fat -- to less than 20%-30% -- her diet may help protect her from developing breast cancer.

Link Between Religious Coping And Aggressive Treatment In Terminally Ill Cancer Patients
Recent research has shown that religion and spirituality are major sources of comfort and support for patients confronting advanced disease. We focused specifically on positive religious coping, on people who rely on their faith to handle the stresses of serious illness and approaching death. Our findings indicate that patients who turn to religion to cope in times of crisis, such as when facing death, are more likely to receive aggressive care when they die.
The study involved 345 advanced cancer patients at seven hospital and cancer centers around the country.
An analysis of the data showed that patients identified as positive religious copers had nearly three times the odds of receiving life-prolonging care, in the form of being on a ventilator or receiving cardiopulmonary resuscitation, in the final week of life. Even after researchers accounted for the influence of important factors such as age, ethnicity, or other coping techniques, the connection between religious coping and aggressive EOL care held up.
The researchers also found that religious copers in the study were less likely to have completed advance medical directives, such as a living will or do-not-resuscitate order, which can limit the extent of such interventions in advance. The effects of religious coping on the use of intensive medical care in the last week of life remained significant even after adjusting for differences in advance care planning.

I hate to break it to you, but Shirley MacLaine is wrinkled and plastic surgery didn't do that to her. Age and perhaps cigarettes did. On the topic of how her surgical results have aged and how many operations she has had I cannot of course comment.

But I have many times been amongst the first to note that some people take cosmetic plastic surgery too far. To condemn anyone who wants to improve their appearance, however, is to condemn anyone who buys makeup or uses skin treatments. Why don't we all just run around with raging acne? That's natural.

This issue is a matter of degrees as it always has been. We just disagree as to how far is too far.
